Aperio webinar – Political and legislative upheaval in Germany
Wednesday, 24 November 2021: 13:00 – 14:00 GMT
Angela Merkel’s leadership of Germany is drawing to a close after a more than a decade and a
half, with her party, the Christian Democrats, in a state of semi-disarray. While in September the
Social Democrats emerged as the leading party in the federal election, as of early November,
complex negotiations between three parties to form a coalition government continue, which are
unlikely to conclude much before Christmas.
All the while, fallout from tumultuous developments within corporate Germany persists. In
particular, the Dieselgate and Wirecard scandals exposed the fallacy that the country is free of
business risk. The German financial regulator BaFin has been subject to a consequent shake-up,
and new or pending legislation such as the Supply Chain Act and the Corporate Liability Act will
impose formal obligations on both domestic and international corporates.
To contextualise these developments and to provide guidance on navigating a new German
business environment, Aperio Intelligence is delighted to invite you to a webinar with our expert
panel:
• Vendeline von Bredow: European business and finance correspondent for the Economist in Berlin
• Isabelle Kilian: Senior Associate, Clyde & Co Europe LLP, Dusseldorf office
• Eberhard Witthoff: Head of Claims – Asia-Pacific, North America, Global Clients and Cyber Claims at Munich Re
